What is Frequency Converter?

A frequency converter translates how often something repeats per unit time — hertz to kilohertz, megahertz to gigahertz, or RPM to hertz. One hertz is one cycle per second; the metric prefixes then climb by thousands: kHz (10³), MHz (10⁶), GHz (10⁹).

RPM — revolutions per minute — is the odd one out: it counts per minute instead of per second, so 1 Hz = 60 RPM. That link lets you convert an engine idling at 900 RPM into 15 Hz, or a hard drive's 7,200 RPM into 120 Hz, putting rotation and vibration on the same scale as sound and radio.

Each range has its world: audible sound spans 20 Hz to 20 kHz; AM radio sits at 530–1700 kHz and FM at 88–108 MHz; Wi-Fi runs at 2.4 or 5 GHz; CPUs are clocked in GHz (3.5 GHz = 3.5 billion cycles per second). On the mechanical side, engines rev at 800–7,000 RPM, and converting to Hz reveals the vibration frequency you feel — 3,000 RPM is 50 Hz, the same frequency as European mains power.

Conversions are exact powers of ten (plus the ÷60 for RPM) and run entirely in your browser.
