What is Digital Storage Converter?
A digital storage converter translates data sizes between units — megabytes to gigabytes, bytes to bits, or gigabytes to the binary gibibytes your operating system may actually be reporting. The core unit is the byte (8 bits); decimal units then scale by 1,000 (1 KB = 1,000 B; 1 MB = 1,000,000 B) while binary units scale by 1,024 (1 KiB = 1,024 B; 1 MiB = 1,048,576 B).
That decimal-versus-binary split is the source of the classic mystery: drive makers sell decimal terabytes, but Windows reports binary units — so a “1 TB” drive shows up as roughly 931 “GB” (properly GiB). Neither number is wrong; they are different units, and this converter handles both families.
