What is Text Sorter?

A text sorter rearranges the lines of a list: alphabetically A–Z or Z–A, reversed from their current order, or shuffled randomly. Paste a list, pick the order, copy the result.

Alphabetizing by hand invites mistakes the eye can't catch in a long list — one out-of-place name in a 90-line roster is nearly invisible. And random order has real uses beyond parlor tricks: fair prize draws, unbiased task assignment, randomized question order, and shuffling any queue where "first pasted" shouldn't mean "first served."

Text-wise, character by character — so "item10" sorts before "item2" because 1 < 2 at the third character. Zero-pad numbers (item02, item10) when you need natural numeric ordering.

It can — strict character-code sorting places all capitals before lowercase (Z before a). If a mixed-case list sorts oddly, normalize the case first with our Case Converter.

Yes for informal draws — every ordering is equally likely, so taking the top line of a shuffled list is an unbiased pick. Regulated lotteries need audited tooling, but office and social-media draws don't.

Z–A sorts alphabetically backwards regardless of current order. Reverse just flips the list as-is — last line first — preserving whatever logic the original order had.

A plain sort uses the first character, i.e. the first name. Rewrite entries as "Last, First" (find-and-replace or a spreadsheet split) before sorting to alphabetize by surname.
